SHANGHAI, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- No. 16-seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber kicked off the Shanghai Rolex Masters with a straight-set win Sunday.

Kohlschreiber defeated Ryan Harrison 6-4, 6-4 posting a break in each set and saving the only break point he faced. Kohlschreiber, who had eight aces, won more than three-quarters of the points on serve.

Also Sunday Fernando Verdasco defeated Go Soeda 6-2, 6-4 and Martin Klizan was a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Thomaz Bellucci.

Verdasco had a pair of breaks in each set of his win. He took nearly as many points (30-31) off Soeda's serve as Soeda managed.

Klizan converted all four of his break chances, again two in each set, in beating Bellucci.

The Shanghai Masters, with the Paris version scheduled for late this month, is the next-to-last of the nine-tournament Masters series this year. Roger Federer has won three of the first seven while Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal each won two.

Federer, Djokovic and Andy Murray, the two-time defending champion, are among seven Top 10 players entered into this week's Shanghai Masters. Nadal, world No. 5 David Ferrer and eighth-ranked Juan Martin del Porto aren't in the draw.
