OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Oakland A's relief pitcher Pat Neshek revealed in a Twitter comment his son, born Tuesday, died 23 hours later.

"Please pray for my family. Tonight my wife & I lost our first & only son," he wrote, adding the baby died "with no explanation."

Neshek's wife, Stephanee, gave birth to Gehrig John Neshek in Florida Tuesday evening, MLB.com reported Thursday.

"We share in their sorrow of losing their young son," the team said in a statement.

The A's won the American League West Division and will face the Detroit Tigers in the A.L. Division Series, beginning Saturday.
