Murray advances to Japan Open third round

TOKYO, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Defending champion Andy Murray raced through a second-round win Wednesday at the Japan Open tennis tournament in Tokyo.

Murray, also the top seed this year, drubbed Lukas Lacko 6-1, 6-2 in 57 minutes. Murray lost 24 points in the match -- 12 points on serve and 12 when receiving. He cashed in all four of his break-point chances.

He next faces seventh-seeded Stanislas Wawrinka, who edged past Jeremy Chardy 7-6 (7-1), 6-7 (6-8), 7-5. Wawrinka had two of the three breaks in the match, including the decisive one late in the third set.

Seeded players claimed wins as the first-round was completed Wednesday.

No. 3-seed Janko Tipsarevic defeated Gilles Simon 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Tipsarevic won nearly 60 percent of the points over the final two sets. He posted two breaks in the second set and four in the third.

Juan Monaco, the fourth seed, had little trouble topping Grigor Dimitrov 6-2, 6-1. Monaco was good on 87 percent of his first serves and dropped just 13 points over seventh games serving. He finished off five of his seven break opportunities when receiving.
