TORONTO, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- A three-run homer by Russell Martin touched off a late-inning surge Friday that sent the New York Yankees rolling over Toronto 11-4.
New York was holding onto a 3-1 lead when Martin hit his blast and the Yankees continued to pile on the runs to maintain a one-game lead over Baltimore in the American League East.
Eric Chavez ended the New York outburst with a two-run shot in the ninth. Nick Swisher put the Yankees in front to stay with a two-run double in the first.
Hiroki Kuroda (15-11) went 5 1/3 innings to pick up the win. He gave up 10 hits, but only two runs.
Chad Jenkins (0-3) lasted a mere 3 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits in taking the loss. It was the second start and 12th appearance of Jenkins' major league career.
