MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers 8, San Diego 4

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Luis Cruz keyed a four-run rally with a single and 6he Los Angeles Dodgers kept their wild-card hopes alive Thursday with an 8-4 defeat of the San Diego Padres.

Chris Capuano (12-11) threw 5 1/3 innings in the finale of the three-game series, giving up one run on five hits and four walks with two strikeouts and collected his first win since Aug. 12. Brandon League picked up the save with a scoreless ninth inning.

Los Angeles led 6-0 at one points, mainly due to a four-run fifth inning. Matt Kemp started the rally with a tow-double double and Adrian Gonzalez was intentionally walked.

San Diego pitcher Casey Kelly then hit Hanley Ramirez with a pitch to load the bases and Shane Victorino with another that forced in a run. Cruz was pulled for Nick Vincent but Cruz delivered a two-run single. A, RBI hit by A.J. Ellis capped the inning.

Cruz and Ellis each ended up with two RBI for the Dodgers, who pulled to within three games of the St. Louis Cardinals for the second wild-card berth in the National League.

Casey Kelly (2-3) allowed five runs on six hits with six strikeouts and two walks in the first 4 2/3 innings as the Padres lost for the fourth time in six games.

Mark Kotsay contributed a pinch-hit, two-run double in the loss as San Diego scored three times in the eighth inning.
