Tipsarevic claims 2nd-round win in Bangkok

BANGKOK, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Janko Tipsarevic and No. 7-seeded Jarkko Nieminen claimed second-round wins Wednesday at the Thailand Open tennis tournament.

Tipsarevic didn't face a break point in taking a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Hiroki Moriya. He lost 11 points in 10 games serving. Moriya was able to fight off 8-of-10 break points but Tipsarevic finished off one in each set to advance.

Nieminen defeated Philipp Petzschner 7-6 (7-1), 6-2. He amassed five breaks in 10 games receiving serve.

Gael Monfils needed three sets Wednesday to win his first-round match. He got his fourth break of the day late in the third set of a 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 decision over Kevin Anderson.

Also Wednesday Go Soeda stopped Daniel Udomchoke 6-4, 7-5 and Ivo Karlovic got by Marinko Matosevic on the tournament's final first-round matches.
