Sept. 22, 2012 at 9:06 PM   |   Comments

CINCINNATI, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Mat Latos pitched eight shutout innings Saturday and Cincinnati clinched the National League Central title with a 6-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Latos (13-4) didn't allow a runner to reach second base in the performance, scattering six hits without a walk. He struck out seven as the Reds won their second division crown in three years.

Zack Cozart drove in two runs, while Brandon Phillips and Jay Bruce belted solo homers for Cincinnati, which evened its three-game series with the Dodgers.

Stephen Fife (0-2) was tagged with the loss, surrendering two runs on five hits in five innings.

The loss was a blow to the Dodgers' post-season hopes. Coupled with the St. Louis Cardinals' win over the Chicago Cubs Saturday, Los Angeles fell three games behind the Cards in the race for a wild card spot.
