Tampa Bay puts receiver Stroughter on IR

TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Tampa Bay wide receiver Sammie Stroughter was placed on injured reserve because of a foot injury, the Buccaneers said Friday.

Stroughter had one reception for 14 yards and returned three punts in Tampa Bay's first two games this season.

In 33 games over his four-year NFL career, Stroughter has 60 catches for 639 yards and one touchdown. He's averaged 8.4 yards over 16 punt returns and 27.7 yards on 34 kickoff returns.

Friday's roster move marked the third time Stroughter will miss playing time due to a foot injury. He missed the last three games of his rookie season in 2009 and appeared in just six games last year because of foot problems.

Tampa Bay signed wide receiver Chris Owusu, who had been on the practice squad of the San Diego Chargers. An undrafted rookie, Owusu had been among the final cuts made by the San Francisco 49ers this season.
