BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- The Czech Republic took a 2-1 lead in their Davis Cup semifinal series against Argentina Saturday with a straight-sets win in doubles play.

The team of Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek posted a 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 win over Carlos Berlocq and Eduardo Schwank. The Czechs can clinch a berth in the finals with a victory in Sunday's reverse singles play.

Berdych, the U.S. Open semifinalist, will take on Juan Martin del Porto in Sunday's first reverse singles contest.

Berdych and Stepanek improved to 11-1 in Davis Cup doubles play but had been a late replacement for the duo of Lukas Rosol and Ivo Minar, who had been originally scheduled to play Sunday.
