MLB: Cincinnati 2, Pittsburgh 1

CINCINNATI, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Scott Rolen's sacrifice fly broke a sixth-inning tie Wednesday and Cincinnati held on to defeat Pittsburgh 2-1.

The Reds moved closer to the National League Central title, expanding their lead over second-place St. Louis to 11 1/2 games with three weeks remaining in the season.

Homer Bailey (11-9) picked up the victory, allowing a run on six hits over seven innings. J.J. Hoover gave up a two-out single in the ninth, but then struck out Jose Tabata to end the game and collect the first save of his major league career.

Hoover, recently recalled from Class AAA, has appeared in 23 games.

The loss was charged to A.J. Burnett (15-7), who surrendered both runs on five hits with eight strikeouts in six innings.
