MLB: Philadelphia 3, Colorado 2 (1st game)

Sept. 9, 2012 at 5:01 PM   |   Comments

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- John Mayberry Jr.'s RBI hit in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday boosted Philadelphia to a 3-2 win over Colorado in the first game of a doubleheader.

The Phils loaded the bases with two outs the ninth against Matt Belisle (3-6) and Mayberry floated a fly ball that Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez couldn't corral despite making a diving try.

That allowed Nate Sheirholtz to come home with the game-winner.

Ryan Howard led the Phillies with a pair of RBI while Domonic Brown went 2- for-4, helping Philadelphia to its third straight win.

Jonathan Papelbon (5-6) tossed a scoreless top of the ninth to earn the victory.

Pitcher Tyler Chatwood drove in a run for Colorado in the loss.
