MONZA, Italy, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- McLaren teammates Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button claimed the top two spots in Saturday's qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix.

Hamilton won the pole for Sunday's race with Button a fraction of a second behind.

"Qualifying on the front row for the both of us is great, and I don't know if any other team has been able to do it this year," said Button, who covered the 3.6-mile course in Monza in 1 minute, 24.133 seconds.

Hamilton finished in 1:24.010 for his fourth pole of the Formula One season. Hamilton is seeking to rebound from a crash last week that consigned him to a 23rd-place finish at the Belgian Grand Prix.

Felipe Massa of Ferrari took third place in Saturday's qualifying and defending champion Sebastian Vettel secured the No. 6 position.
