PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Pinch-hitter Nat Schierholtz singled in Jimmy Rollins from third with one out in the ninth inning Friday to bring Philadelphia a 3-2 decision over Colorado.
The Phillies handed the Rockies their third straight loss by getting the most out of a pair of pinch hitters.
Laynce Nix came off the bench in the seventh to deliver a two-run double that tied it up and Schierholtz delivered the game-winner off Will Harris (1-1).
Rollins walked to open the ninth and moved to second on a sacrifice by Juan Pierre. After Chase Utley was walked intentionally, Schierholtz came on to bat for Jonathan Papelbon.
While Schierholtz was at the plate, Harris threw a wild pitch that moved the runners to second and third, and the pinch-hitter than slapped a 3-2 offering to right to bring home Rollins. Schierholtz had gone hitless in his previous 15 at-bats.
Papelbon (4-6) worked the top of the ninth to get the win, which was the 10th for the Phillies in 14 games.
