Serena Williams, on record streak, remains No. 1

NEW YORK, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- The NFL has formally extended its annual trade deadline and altered its rules concerning players on the injured reserve list.
The league said Thursday it is moving the trade deadline to after the eighth week of the season. Trades previously had to be completed after Week 6.
The league said it will allow teams to activate one player each season off the injured reserve list. Formerly, once a player was placed on injured reserve his season was over.
Both changes take effect this season. NFL owners had approved the rules in May but the league had to wait for the NFL Players' Association to agree before the new rules could be implemented.
