CHESTER, Pa., Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Eddie Gaven scored in the closing minutes Wednesday in lifting Columbus to a 2-1 victory over Philadelphia.

The Crew overcame an early 1-0 deficit and did so despite playing the final 22 minutes a man down.

Josh Williams, who scored the tying goal just before halftime, was issued a direct red card. Despite the adversity, Columbus produced the game-winner in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time when Gaven took a pass from Justin Meram and easily beat goalkeeper Zac MacMath.

Columbus (11-8-6) moved into a tie for sixth place in the Eastern Conference with Montreal at 39 points. Philadelphia (7-13-4) is on a five-game winless streak and is out of playoff contention.
