TORONTO, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Slugging Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista will have wrist surgery and miss the rest of the season, the team announced Tuesday.
The Blue Jays indicated on their Twitter account Bautista will have surgery on his left wrist, but will be ready for 2013 spring training.
Bautista, who originally hurt the wrist during an at-bat against the New York Yankees July 16, was out of the lineup until Saturday when he re-aggravated the injury against Baltimore during a first-inning at-bat.
He was put back on the disabled list after that.
The 31-year-old Dominican Republic native, who led the major leagues in home runs in 2010 and 2011, was hitting .241 with 27 homers and 65 RBIs in 92 games this season.
