Top seeds move on in North Carolina

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Jo-Wilfried Tsonga led a march of the top four seeds into the quarterfinals of the Winston-Salem Open Wednesday while Andy Roddick was eliminated.

Tsonga, the No. 1 seed in the final U.S. Open tuneup, fought off Sergiy Stakhovsky 7-6 (7-1), 6-4 to earn a quarterfinal meeting with Marcel Granollers.

Granollers ousted Ernests Gulbis 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Second-seeded Tomas Berdych, No. 3 John Isner and No. 4 Alexandr Dolgopolov also moved into the quarterfinals in the hard-court tournament.

Berdych coasted past Jarkko Nieminen 6-3, 6-2, Isner got past Jurgen Melzer 6-4, 6-3 and Dolgopolov defeated David Nalbandian 6-3, 6-4.

Roddick, who was seeded fifth, was ousted by Steve Darcis 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-3).

Darcis will face Berdych in the quarterfinals, Dolgopolov will take on Sam Querrey and Isner will play David Goffin.

Querrey was a 6-3, 6-4 third-round winner over Feliciano Lopez and Goffin took out Lukasz Kubot 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5).
