Frankel easily wins 13th straight race

YORK, England, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Frankel destroyed a field of top rivals Wednesday, winning the Juddmonte International by 7 lengths and running his win streak to 13.

The 4-year-old Galileo colt, ranked No. 1 among the world's Thoroughbreds, ran 1 1/4 miles, 2 furlongs longer than he ever had in the past, and didn't seem to mind a bit. At the wire, Frankel and jockey Tom Queally were 7 lengths in front.

Farhh edged St Nicholas Abbey for second in the most highly anticipated race of York's Ebor Meeting.

Sir Henry Cecil, battling cancer, said Frankel's showing made him feel "probably 20 years better." He added, "It was great, wasn't it?"

Frankel's victory leaves little for him to prove. It has been assumed widely he would wind up his racing career in the 1 1/4-miles Champion Stakes on Oct. 20 at Ascot. But the ease of his win Wednesday had supporters enthusiastic about a run in the Oct. 7 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp in Paris.

The Arc is run at 1 1/2 miles. And, while Frankel easily handled the tough middle-distance opponents lined up against him at York, the Arc would provide an even deeper pool of opponents.
