VIRGINIA WATER, England, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Rory McIlroy is ranked No. 1 but Tiger Woods has the most FedEx Cup points as the PGA Tour heads into its playoff season.

McIlroy is ranked first for an eighth week overall. He has a pair of wins this year, including the recent PGA Championship, but Woods has more wins (three) this year in the PGA Tour than any other player.

They will be among the most watched players as the FedEx Cup series of tournaments begins Thursday with The Barclays in Farmingdale, N.Y.

McIlroy has a ranking points average of 10.421 while Luke Donald remains second at 9.613 and Woods is third with 8.630. Lee Westwood is No. 4 at 7.229 and Webb Simpson (6.199) takes fifth and Adam Scott (6.185) is No. 6.

Bubba Watson (6.139) moves to No. 7, switching places with eighth-ranked Justin Rose (6.053) in the only change in the world rankings Top 10 this week. Jason Dufner (5.997) is ninth and Steve Stricker has an average of 5.831 for 10th.

Sergio Garcia won the rain-delayed Wyndham Championship and jumps from 29th to No. 17 in the world rankings.

Woods leads the FedEx Cup standings, which are calculated by using results only from 2012 tournaments, with 2,269.24 points while Dufner (2,110.3) is second, just ahead of McIlroy (2.091.5).

The top 125 players in the FedEx Cp standings qualify for The Barclays but only the Top 100 after that tournament move to the Deutsche Bank Championship.
