MLB: Philadelphia 12, Cincinnati 5

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- John Mayberry went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and three RBI Monday, sparking the Philadelphia Phillies' 12-5 victory over Cincinnati.

Ryan Howard added a solo shot and a run-scoring single, while Juan Pierre went 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored for the Phillies, who pounded out 15 hits in the opener of a four-game series.

Domonic Brown's two-run double capped a four-run fifth inning that erased a 5-3 deficit and the Phillies got two RBI each from Erik Kratz and Chase Headley.

Roy Halladay (7-7) earned the decision despite allowing five runs on 10 hits over seven innings.

Mike Leake (5-8) was roughed up for seven runs on 10 hits through 4 1/3 innings for the National League Central-leading Reds.

Jay Bruce went 3-for-3 with two RBI and Chris Heisey added three hits, including a run-scoring double, for Cincinnati.
