Olympic Medal: M Marathon

LONDON, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Stephen Kiprotich of Uganga won the Olympic marathon gold medal Sunday in the time of 2 hours, 8 minutes, 1 second.

He became the first Ugandan to win the event in the history of the Olympics.

Abel Kirui of Kenya was the silver medal winner and Kipsang Wilson Kiprotich of Kenya took the bronze.

American Mebrathon Keflezighi, who finished second in the 2004 Olympic marathon, wound up fourth on a warm, humid day that took its toll among the world's elite marathon runners.
