Blake, Tomic open Cincy event with wins

CINCINNATI, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- James Blake and Bernard Tomic opened the Western & Southern Open with first-round victories Sunday in Cincinnati.

American wild card Blake registered eight aces and shook off three double faults en route to a 7-5, 6-4 victory over South Africa's Kevin Anderson in one of Sunday's main draw singles matches.

Also Sunday, Australia's Tomic fought off American Ryan Harrison to emerge with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win on Day 1 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.
