NFL: San Francisco 17, Minnesota 6

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Colin Kaepernick scored on a 79-yard run Friday, highlighting the San Francisco 49ers' 17-6 pre-season victory over Minnesota.

The back-up signal-caller also went 5-of-9 through the air for 40 yards in relief of starter Alex Smith, who went 3-of-3 for 16 yards and a touchdown.

Anthony Dixon racked up 46 yards on 12 carries, while Rock Cartwright compiled 44 yards on eight carries for the 49ers.

Christian Ponder started behind center for the Vikings and amassed 80 yards on 4-of-9 passing.

Blair Walsh kicked two field goals for Minnesota.
