DAVIE, Fla., Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chad Johnson was arrested Saturday in Davie, Fla., for allegedly head-butting his new wife, police said.

Davie Police Department Capt. Dale Engle told the South Florida Sun Sentinel the alleged domestic-violence incident took place in a vehicle.

Johnson's wife, Evelyn Lozada, had lacerations on her forehead when police arrived, the newspaper said. The couple were married July 4 in Saint Martin.

Lozada is a cast member of the VH1 reality series "Basketball wives," having had a 10-year relationship with NBA star Antoine Walker.

Johnson was arrested in college for a domestic dispute but hasn't been arrested since entering the NFL in 2001, the Sun Sentinel said.
