LONDON, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Eva Risztov of Hungary held off American Haley Anderson Thursday and won the Olympic 10-kilometer marathon swimming race in London's Hyde Park.
Anderson passed Italy's Martina Grimaldi in the final stages of the race and almost caught Risztov, finishing 0.40 of a second behind the winner.
Grimaldi wound up with the bronze medal.
It was the second medal of the Olympics for the swimming Anderson family. Alyssa Anderson, Haley's sister, swam a leg on the American 800-meter freestyle relay team during the qualifying heats last week.
Although Alyssa Anderson was not one of the four swimmers who swam in and won the relay final, her participation in the event earned her a gold medal.
Risztov was timed in 1 hour, 57 minutes, 38.2 seconds, almost 2 minutes quicker than the winning time in Beijing when this event was conducted in the Olympics for the first time.
Britain's Keri-Anne Payne, who won the silver medal in 2008, finished fourth on Thursday.
