LONDON, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Allyson Felix of the United States won the Olympic gold medal Wednesday in the 200-meter dash.

Felix had settled for the silver medal in the event at each of the previous two Summer Games.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica, gold medalist earlier in these Olympics in the 100-meter dash, took silver in the 200. Carmelita Jeter of the United States, who ran second behind Fraser-Pryce in the 100, won the bronze over 200 meters.

Two-time defending 200 champion Veronica Campbell-Brown finished fourth.
