MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers 3, Chicago Cubs 1

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Clayton Kershaw tossed seven solid innings Saturday and the Los Angeles Dodgers kept pace in their division with a 3-1 win over the Chicago Cubs.

Kershaw (9-6) tamed the Cubs on three hits, allowing just one run while walking two and striking out five.

Ronald Belisario hurled a scoreless eighth and Kenley Jansen supplied a 1-2-3 ninth for his 21st save for the second-place Dodgers, who remained one-half game behind National League West-leading San Francisco with the victory.

Matt Kemp bashed a two-run homer in the fourth to put Los Angeles ahead and the Dodgers added an insurance run in the eighth on Chicago shortstop Starlin Castro's error.

The Dodgers clinched their three-game series with the victory.

Chicago's Chris Volstad (0-8) was saddled with the loss despite yielding just two runs on six hits in a seven-inning effort.

Alfonso Soriano collected the Cubs' only RBI.
