The winner of each competition receives one point, the second place finisher gets two points and so on through all of the cyclists. The points are added after the six events and the competitor with the lowest total wins.

Hansen won the 4-kilometer race and was second in the 30-kilometer points race and 1-kilometer time trial.

Even with a 12th-place finish in the elimination race Hansen put together a gold medal winning total of 27 points.

Bryan Coquard of France was second at 29 points and Edward Clancy third with 30. Coquard won the elimination race, but his 12th place finish in the pursuit set him back.
