LONDON, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Jin Hyek Oh of South Korea dominated the finals Friday to win the Olympic men's individual archery gold medal.
South Koreans had finished second on three occasions in this event at the Olympics, but this was the first gold for that country.
Oh defeated Japan's Takaharu Furukawa in the finals 7-1. The gold medal winner hit the center ring for 10 points seven times compared with just three for Furukawa.
To get to the championship round, Oh had to defeat defending gold medalist Viktor Ruban of Ukraine in the quarterfinals and then capture a shoot-off against China's Dai Xiaoxiang in the semis.
Dai defeated Rick van der Ven of the Netherlands for the bronze medal.
Oh won the fourth and final archery gold medal handed out at these Olympics. South Korea walked off with three of them with Italy capturing the other in the men's team event.
