Olympic Medal: M Single Sculls Rowing

DORNEY, England, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Mahe Drysdale of New Zealand won the Olympic gold medal Friday in men's singles sculls rowing.

It was the one major prize he had not achieved, having won five world championships in the event over the last seven years. He finished third in single sculls at the Beijing Olympics.

Ondrej Synek of the Czech Republic won the silver medal for the second straight Olympics. The bronze went to Alan Campbell of Britain, who finished fifth four years ago.

Two-time defending champion Olaf Tufte of Norway failed to reach the finals.
