LONDON, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Michael Phelps won his third consecutive Olympic gold medal Thursday in the 200-meter individual medley.
It was the 16th gold medal of his Olympic career and the 20th medal overall, both records.

Ryan Lochte, who had finished third in the 200-meter back stroke just a half hour earlier, returned to win the silver medal behind Phelps.
The bronze medal went to Laszlo Cseh of Hungary.
