LONDON, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Nathan Adrian of the United States won the Olympic gold medal Wednesday by the narrowest of margin in the men's 100-meter freestyle.

Adrian defeated James Magnussen of Australia by .01 of a second. The bronze medal went to Brent Hayden of Canada.
