NEW YORK, July 31 (UPI) -- New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira has a left wrist injury that could keep him out of the lineup for several days, the team said Tuesday.

Teixeira said the wrist has been sore for some time and he left Monday's game against Baltimore after diving for a batted ball. His left wrist hit the ground hard during the play.

Teixeira had additional tests Tuesday but there was no indication of structural damage, the Yankees said. He was diagnosed with inflammation and given a cortisone shot. Teixeira is to be re-evaluated Friday.

Teixeira is hitting .256 with 20 home runs in 98 games and he leads the Yankees with 71 runs batted in.
