MLB: Philadelphia 8, Washington 0

WASHINGTON, July 31 (UPI) -- Cliff Lee fired seven shutout innings and added a run-scoring single Monday, helping send the Philadelphia Phillies to an 8-0 whitewash of Washington.

Lee (2-6) posted his first win in four starts, stifling the Nationals on five hits while issuing a walk and striking out seven in a 103-pitch performance.

Kevin Frandsen socked his first homer since 2007 -- a two-run shot in the second inning -- and after Lee delivered an RBI hit in the fourth, Jimmy Rollins chased him home with an inside-the-park homer.

Juan Pierre went 3-for-5 with two runs scored for Philadelphia, which took the opener of a three-game series.

Stephen Strasburg (11-5) was roughed up for six runs on eight hits, lasting only four full innings for National League East-leading Washington.
