NEW YORK, July 30 (UPI) -- Nick Markakis went 3-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs Monday, boosting the Baltimore Orioles to a 5-4 decision over the New York Yankees.

Two innings later the Baltimore outfielder gave the Orioles a 4-2 advantage with an RBI double, and then scored on J.J. Hardy's single to provide the winning margin.

Miguel Gonzalez (3-2) earned the victory despite surrendering four runs on six hits. The rookie right-hander didn't allow a walk and struck out eight.

Darren O'Day and Pedro Strop combined for 1 1/3 scoreless relief frames and Jim Johnson collected his American League-best 31st save.

Ichiro Suzuki hit his first homer as a Yankee and the 100th of his career while Eric Chavez and Raul Ibanez also went deep for AL East-leading New York.
