Benesova falls in Citi Open upset

WASHINGTON, July 29 (UPI) -- Sixth-seeded Iveta Benesova fell in an upset to Taiwan's Chang Kai-Chen Sunday in opening day action at the Citi Open in Washington.

Kai-Chen breezed to a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the William H.G. Fitzgerald Tennis Center.

Also in the main draw Sunday, qualifier Michelle Larcher de Brito bested Mirjana Lucic 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 and wild card Eugenie Bouchard got past Karin Knapp 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
