An eagle on the 7th hole helped Langer weather rough back nine that included two bogeys and settle in at 7-under 203 heading into Sunday's decisive round at Turnberry.
Langer picked up birdie on 17 to maintain his narrow lead over Couples, who came alive after two forgettable rounds earlier in the week to card a sizzling 64 on Saturday. Couples hit 13 greens in regulation and trimmed his putts down from 35 Thursday to 26 Saturday.
Couples started fast with five birdies on the front nine and shook off two bogeys on the back stretch to put himself a shot clear of third-place Peter Fowler, who turned in a solid round of 65.
