Piercy grabs lead at Canadian Open

ANCASTER, Ontario, July 26 (UPI) -- Scott Piercy shot a course-record 8-under 62 Thursday to take the first-round lead at the Canadian Open.

Greg Owen and William McGirt both fired a 7-under 63, matching the previous record set in 2006 by Jim Furyk and Brett Quigley.

Robert Garrigus was in fourth place at 6-under 64, while Stuart Appleby, Vijay Singh, Charl Schwartzel, Gavin Coles, Bo Van Pelt, Jhonattan Vegas and Troy Matteson shared fifth at 5-under 65.

Defending champion Sean O'Hair was far back after shooting 5-over 75 in the opening round, which was delayed 20 minutes by rain at Hamilton Golf & Country Club in Ancaster, Ontario.
