PHILADELPHIA, July 22 (UPI) -- Jimmy Rollins delivered a run-scoring single in the 12th inning Sunday, boosting the Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-3 decision over San Francisco.

Carlos Ruiz drew a one-out walk from Brad Penny (0-1) in the 12th, went to third on a Laynce Nix single and scored the winning run when Rollins lined the first pitch he saw into right field for a solid hit.

John Mayberry belted a pair of solo homers but the Phillies needed extra innings when Nate Schierholtz bashed the second of his two homers in the eighth off starter Joe Blanton, tying the contest 3-3.

The 12th-inning rally made a winner of Kyle Kendrick (4-8), who hurled 2 1/3 scoreless innings as the Phillies avoided a three-game sweep at the hands of the National League West-leading Giants.
