OAKLAND, Calif., July 21 (UPI) -- Brandon Moss singled home Yoenis Cespedes in the ninth inning Friday to lift the Oakland A's over the New York Yankees 3-2.
New York tied it in the top of the ninth on a leadoff home run by Robinson Cano, but the Athletics struck for three straight singles in the bottom half of the inning.
Clay Rapada recorded a strikeout to start the Oakland ninth and was then replaced on the mound by Cody Eppley. Cespedes, Jonny Gomes and Moss all singled off Eppley (0-1), who suffered the second loss of his major league career in his 43rd appearance.
Oakland won for the seventh time in eight games and captured its second in a row against the Yankees. The two straight home wins against New York have come after the Yankees had won nine in a row in Oakland.
Ryan Cook (4-2) got the win even though he gave up the tying homer to Cano.
Oakland starter Tommy Milone struck out 10 over seven innings and left the game with a 2-0 lead.
A home run in the eighth by Russell Martin cut New York's deficit in half.
