ANAHEIM, Calif., July 21 (UPI) -- Jered Weaver gave up a single run over seven innings to win his sixth straight start Friday, carrying the Los Angeles Angels to a 6-1 win over Texas.
Weaver (12-1) worked around six hits and struck out four while lowering his earned run average for the year to 2.20.
The Angels snapped a 1-1 tie with a three-run fourth that began with a double from Albert Pujols and a single by Mark Trumbo. Howard Kendrick's fielder's choice grounder brought home Pujols from third and, after Alberto Callaspo singled, Erick Aybar drove in two runs with a double.
Mark Trumbo and Mike Trout hit solo homers in the sixth and seventh.
All the Los Angeles runs came off starter Derek Holland, who was touched for nine hits over 6 2/3 innings. The Angels climbed within five games of the AL West-leading Rangers.
