DETROIT, July 18 (UPI) -- Doug Fister allowed just two hits over eight innings Friday in carrying the Detroit Tigers to a 7-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.

Fister (4-6) gave up a first-inning homer to Albert Pujols, and then shut down the Angels to win his third straight start. He struck out 10 and walked two before giving way to Joaquin Benoit in the ninth.

Delmon Young singled in Miguel Cabrera in the bottom of the first to lift Detroit into a 1-1 tie and the Tigers then took command with a four-run second.

Detroit sent eight men to the plate in that inning against C.J. Wilson (9-6) and Prince Fielder finished off the outburst with a two-run single.

Brennan Boesch added a two-run double in the fifth.

The Tigers have won two out of three in the four-game series that will conclude Thursday.

Los Angeles, which will host American League West leader Texas during a weekend series, is 2-4 since the All-Star break.
