Wiggins leads, Tour moves to final stages

PAU, France, July 17 (UPI) -- Bradley Wiggins holds a 2-minute advantage in the overall standings as the Tour de France heads into its final five stages.

Tuesday marked a rest day for the riders with the race resuming Wednesday with a tough mountain stage in the Pyrenees.

Wiggins' time through the first 15 stages totals 68 hours, 33 minutes, 21 seconds, which is 2 minutes, 5 seconds ahead of fellow British rider and Sky Procycling teammate Christopher Froome.

Vincenzo Nibali is third, 2:23 off the pace set by Wiggins. Defending Tour de France champion Cadel Evans sits fourth 3:19 back of the leader and Jurgen Van Den Broeck is fifth 1:29 further back.

Wednesday's Stage 16 runs from Pau to Bagneres-de-Luchon, covering 122.4 miles. The route includes two unclassified climbs -- the second covering about 12 miles at a grade of 7.4 percent up the 6,939-foot Col du Tourmalet -- with a pair of Category 1 climbs in the final third of the stage.
