NEW YORK, July 17 (UPI) -- Toronto outfielder Jose Bautista, second in the American League in home runs this season, has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.

Bautista injured his left wrist in the eighth inning of a game Monday night in New York when he hit a long foul ball. He quickly grabbed his wrist and was removed from the game.

Team officials said X-rays were negative and said the injury was due to wrist inflammation.

Bautista has led the American League in home runs each of the last two seasons. He has 27 home runs this year, second to Adam Dunn's 28. Bautista is hitting .244 over 90 games and has driven in 65 runs, which is tied for the third in the American League.

The Blue Jays purchased the contract of outfielder Anthony Gose from Triple-A Las Vegas to fill Bautista's roster spot. Gose, 21, is hitting .293 with five home runs and 41 runs batted in along with 29 stolen bases for Las Vegas.
