Ferrer bests Almagro for Sweden crown

BASTAD, Sweden, July 15 (UPI) -- Top-seeded David Ferrer remained perfect against Nicolas Almagro Sunday, downing him in straight sets to capture the Swedish Open.

Ferrer improved to 11-0 lifetime against his second-seeded countryman, dispatching him 6-2, 6-2 in a little over an hour to claim his fifth crown of the season, tying him with world No. 1 Roger Federer.

The 30-year-old added the Swedish title to his 2012 resume along with wins at Auckland, Buenos Aires, Acapulco and s-Hertogenbosch. It was his second title at Bastad -- he also defeated Almagro to win the event in 2007.

Almagro came up short in his bid for his third crown of the season after taking trophies at Sao Paulo and Nice.
