No. 1 seed Tipsarevic wins at Mercedes

STUTTGART, Germany, July 11 (UPI) -- Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic cruised into the quarterfinals of the Mercedes Cup in Germany Wednesday with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Belgium's Steve Darcis.

Tipsarevic, the No. 1 seed, will go against Bjorn Phau of Germany on Friday on the red clay courts at TC Weissenhof in Stuttgart. Phau emerged from the second round by subduing tenacious Czech Lukas Rosol 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-2).

In other second-round action, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez ousted fourth-seeded fellow Spaniard Pablo Andujar 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. Andujar was last year's Stuttgart runner-up to former world No. 1 compatriot Juan Carlos Ferrero.

German wild card Dustin Brown served up 19 aces in dispatching Frenchman Benoit Paire 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-1. Brown and Garcia-Lopez will meet in the round of eight.
