STANFORD, Calif., July 10 (UPI) -- Eighth-seeded Marina Erakovic and American teenager Nicole Gibbs each moved on Tuesday after opening-round victories at the Bank of the West Classic.

New Zealander Erakovic reached the second round with a 6-2, 6-2 pasting of Slovakia's Jana Juricova at Stanford University's Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

Gibbs, meanwhile, notched a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Thai qualifier Noppawan Lertcheewakarn.

The 19-year-old's reward will be to face top-seeded 2012 Wimbledon winner Serena Williams in her first match since taking the Grand Slam event.

Also claiming a victory Tuesday was Japanese qualifier Erika Sema, who dispatched American lucky-loser Alexa Glatch 6-2, 6-3.
