ANAHEIM, Calif., July 8 (UPI) -- Jered Weaver fired eight shutout innings Saturday, staking the Los Angeles Angels to a 3-0 decision over Baltimore.
Weaver (10-1) won his fourth straight start, during which he has allowed only one run over 27 2/3 innings.
The right-hander scattered three hits, issued only one walk and struck out five while lowering his ERA to a major league-best 1.96 for the Angels, who took a 2-1 lead in their four-game series with the Orioles.
Scott Downs tossed a 1-2-3 ninth for his eighth save.
Torii Hunter, Kendrys Morales and Howie Kendrick drove in runs for Los Angeles.
Jason Hammel (8-5) pitched well but absorbed the loss for Baltimore, allowing three runs on six hits over 6 2/3 frames.
