MLB: N.Y. Yankees 6, Boston 1 (1st game)

BOSTON, July 7 (UPI) -- Andruw Jones cracked a pair of homers to back Freddy Garcia's strong start Saturday and the New York Yankees spanked Boston 6-1 in Game 1 of a doubleheader.

Nick Swisher and Jones hit back-to-back homers in the first inning, while Jones and Jason Nix repeated the feat in the fourth for New York, which took its second straight in a four-game series at Fenway Park.

Swisher finished 2-for-2 with three RBI while Derek Jeter added three hits for the American League East-leading Yankees, who won for the fifth time in seven games.

Garcia (3-2) logged his second victory in three starts, handling Boston on one run over 6 2/3 innings, walking two and striking out five.

Bosox starter Franklin Morales (1-2) was lit up for six runs on six hits in a 3 1/2-inning stint.

Mauro Gomez supplied the only RBI for Boston, which dropped its fifth straight.
