CLEVELAND, July 6 (UPI) -- Luke Scott's two-run homer, his first hit in more than a month, keyed a six-run fifth inning Friday that launched Tampa Bay to a 10-3 win over Cleveland.
Scott had gone hitless in a franchise-record 41 consecutive at-bats before his 10th homer of the season gave the Rays a 6-2 lead. They went on to score four more times in the fifth with Elliot Johnson's double driving in two runs.
Scott came within five hitless at-bats of equaling the longest such streak by a non-pitcher in major league history.
Tampa Bay's offensive outburst made Alex Cobb (4-5) the easy winner. He gave up three runs on six hits in six innings.
Justin Masterson (5-8) was tagged with the loss after allowing eight runs on nine hits in 4 1/3.
Tampa Bay had lost two in a row and four out of six. The Indians had a three-game winning streak snapped.
